No difference, and now that I'm on Debian, I'm using Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64. Meh, I guess it doesn't matter much.

Debian has always been conservative with which version they are using. They want it to be tested and proven before using anything in the stable version.

4.5.5 is pretty new, so I think you are pretty much up there with "bleeding edge" kernel.
