This thread is dedicated to the awesome BIOS firmware called Libreboot. Let's start with posting why we should get it.
My first argument will be, it's FSF approved.

...if only it were easier to install. It's not proprietary. That's pretty much the only reason I need.

I also like the part where you can't use Libreboot and install Wangblow$.

I can't think of any reason why someone would use Libreboot and then try to install Wangblow$.

I can't think about that either, but it stops the idiots from installing it later when they change their mind about good things.

If they change their minds, they deserve non-working computers.

Is Libreboot a GNU product?

Yeah, it is. It's fully supported by FSF. It's not the GNU foundation that is making it, if that's what you mean.

That was what I meant. It's too bad it's so difficult to use. It's pathetic that even BIOS can't be considered secure nowadays.

I know. It's kind of depressing.

It's pathetic how willing people are to run proprietary code on their machines that could be (or even probably is) hurting them.

I know. The next time I'm building a computer, I will spend some time resourcing what kind of hardware that can run open source software/firmware. It won't be perfect (since some things like CPU is pretty much impossible to get around), but I will do my best getting as close as possible.

Agreed. I think the only nonfree software on my Gentoo machine is the BIOS.

Which makes it almost impossible to know if it has any backdoors built into it.

I'm sure it does. Of course we're just "paranoid freetards" for caring about this stuff.

Of course, but I'm pretty sure people won't be so arrogant about it when it happens to them.

I want to make an 128-bit processor with no backdoors.
